History
His mother was a French teacher, and his father was an Irish factory worker. Advised against marrying him she dated him in her early 20's when Gregory's father was visiting France. Soon he returned to Ireland, though he didn't know that his mother was already pregnant with Gregory. It seemed that either she never told his father or his father wanted very little to do with Gregory.
His early childhood was some of the best years he had. His mother took a job just outside of Paris, though Gregory does not remember the city that fondly. He preferred his mother's family's countryside house. But he spent the first six years playing like any child did. Until his mother had an aneurysm. It's one of those sad stories people often hear, where the child was stuck with the dead parent for days until a neighbor comes to check on them.
Starving and terrified, Gregory was taken into custody. While his grandparents or aunts would have gladly taken him in, his father was contacted in Ireland, and Gregory was uprooted to Ireland. At first things were fine. His father was a hard man though and drank often. Things in Ireland were very different. His mother was from a middle class French family where his father was lower class and constantly in and out of jobs.
He tried to be a good son, but he certainly stood out. He missed his mother, and quickly he became the brunt of his father's anger, often reminding his father of the woman he lost (and therefore took the blame of what his father missed out on). After burning many bridges in Ireland, his father and him were sent to Boston to live with Gregory's great uncle at the age of 12.
This move set up the rest of Gregory's life. His family was loosely connected to the Irish mob in Boston. As he went through his teens, he acted out. Between his father's beatings and his own anger issues rising, he chose to set out on his own. At first he was just a runner for one of the smaller dealers. By the time he graduated from high school, he had set up his own ring. But being a dealer wasn't something he wanted to stay in. It brought in enough money for him to move out of his great uncle's home (away from his abusive father), but Gregory has always been ambitious.
Studying at Boston College, Gregory got his degree in Accounting. He's always been good with money and math, making the best of what responsibility he was given in his territory. While getting his masters, his bosses had him start cooking books for various businesses. He was on the take, and living more lavishly than most people at the age of 24. It seemed like he was rising quickly.
Until a feud within split most of the territory and men. After having a price on his head, Gregory fled Boston never having finished his masters degree. Heading to South America, Gregory had to reinvent himself. Having a few contacts there, Gregory couldn't get out of illegal activity. By the age of 30 he was already running full cons, though often contracted and not working for any institution.
A few years later after making a name for himself, he returns to the States to start his own company in Miami. While he's company is mostly on the up and up, he still does some accounting. His company is an international brokerage that mainly deals with various Southern American countries, France, England, the Netherlands, Russia, Czech, Saudi Arabia, China, Japan, and Australia. He's well traveled and fluent in eight languages.

Personality
Because of the way he was brought up, Gregory is mostly a loner. He isn't quick to trust, and he has major daddy issues. Losing the one caring person in his life, he often comes across as hard, though he does not wish to become his father so he does try and work on that. He's deeply empathetic because of that. He isn't aggressive at all and comes off as more reserved which is also attributed to his lack of trust.
He doesn't have close friends. He has coworkers, and while he has been in love, it has always been quick trysts. He's witnessed too much to just fall for someone, and even then he never truly opens up. Part of the way he lives is almost a punishment. He feels his life has always gone down since the day his mother died, and that alone has left many scars.
However there is a very tender side to him. He seeks to be liked, even if he in turn never really shows his cards. He has a need to people please set in early from his father's verbal and physical abuse. He doesn't show this easily, but especially when he's in a relationship, he would rather spend a day in bed than out doing things.
While he can appear very personable, this is something that he's gained from manipulating people. On the outside he comes off very social in any job type of situation. He can be charming and put on a good show. But what he shows is in stark contrast to who he is. He spends a lot of time pleasing people, getting them what they want. However he's mostly insular, guarded and calculating. He prefers numbers to people, something that is always rational, something that can't let him down.
